Note: The numbers in the "No." column are in the chronological order of when the agents were recruited by the VALORANT Protocol. New agents take 12–15 months to develop, and their design is focused around points such as what's missing from the game's current playstyles, are there any prospective thematics that present big opportunities, and what’s needed for better game health. It is the intention of the developers that a new agent be released around once per act.
Since the Closed Beta launch on April 7, 2020, Raze was added, bringing the Agent total to 10. Riot was aiming to launch the game with 12 agents, but only 8 were available in the early press builds. Sentinel agents are defensive experts who can lock down areas and watch flanks, both on attacker and defender rounds.Initiator agents challenge angles by setting up their team to enter contested ground and push defenders away.Duelist agents are self-sufficient fraggers who their team expects, through abilities and skills, to get high frags and seek out engagements first.Controller agents are experts in slicing up dangerous territory to set their team up for success.Depending on their their abilities and playstyle, agents will be assigned to one of four roles:

New players can also unlock two additional agents by progressing through the Play to Unlock contract and earning free agent unlocks at Tiers 5 and 10, which will immediately grant XP for the selected agent to reach Tier 5 of their contract and recruit the agent.Įach agent has 100 base HP (increased with shields) and four abilities, including a Signature and an Ultimate ability. All other agents must be unlocked by progressing through each of their agent contracts and completing Tier 5. Five agents are immediately available for players to use Brimstone, Jett, Phoenix, Sage, and Sova.
